Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) has introduced HR 899, a bill that would finally accomplish President Ronald Reagan's goal of abolishing the federal Department of Education.

The bill is one sentence long and simply reads, "The Department of Education shall terminate on December 31, 2018."

Tell the House Education Committee to support and pass this bill to finally put an end to federal control over American public schools! WATCH this video for more information:

The federal Department of Education was created in 1980 by Jimmy Carter as a FAVOR to the teachers' unions for supporting his reelection efforts.

Ever since then, the National Education Association public sector labor union has been taking taxpayer money through union dues and donating massive amounts of cash directly to the Democrat Party.

Notice that teaching kids is not part of that equation and the results show! American kids are lagging behind the rest of the world in education.

In California which used to be first in the nation in education when I was growing up, only 27% of students currently read and do math at or above their grade level. Almost 3/4ths of all California students are below their grade level and California today ranks 45th out of 50 states -- it is nearly the worst in the country!

Proverbs 18:15 states, "The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out." Rather than imparting knowledge to students, the Dept. of Education and teachers' unions are more concerned with social engineering and political power, and in creating zombie-like students who are slaves to the government and reliable Democrat voters.

In 2008, Barack Obama gave a speech to Wall Street investors and explained that he was so frustrated with the education bureaucracy that he was about to voice his support for a nationwide school choice policy.1

The NEA bought Obama off and instead he moved "hard left" on education issues, catering to every whim of a public sector labor union which in fact wields more power over American politicians than Wall Street!

We can turn America's schools around if we abolish federal control of schools and take power away from the public sector labor unions, by doing away with the Department of Education.

Dear Chairwoman Foxx:

The federal Department of Education was created in 1980 as a favor from Jimmy Carter to the teachers' unions that supported his election. Imagine that! An entire federal bureaucracy created for no other purpose than as a political kickback. Ronald Reagan campaigned on a promise to abolish "Carter's Bureaucratic Boondoggle" but unfortunately, the Democrat-controlled Congress at the time was not receptive to this idea which was obviously popular with the American people (see the 1980 election outcome). The results of leaving this entrenched and politically-charged department in place have been catastrophic for generations of American children.

America has devolved from a nation that put a man on the moon to a nation that can only strive to put a man in the little girls' restrooms, thanks to the efforts of the Department of Education and its shock troops in the National Education Association. Rather than sharpening the minds of students, the NEA sharpens knives for the backs of any Democrat politicians who stray off of the federal reservation. Even Republicans are susceptible to bribery from the NEA, as Senators Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins proved this week when they voted against President Trump's new Secretary of Education.

Education seems to be the one thing that the Department of Education is not interested in. American students are lagging far, far behind their counterparts in the poorest communist countries of the world, in spite of the trillions of dollars we pour into federal mandates. Somehow, teaching all children to be Democrat-voting zombies who revile our Constitution does not seem to translate into better math and reading scores on tests.

Rep. Thomas Massie has introduced a bill to abolish the Department of Education, HR 899. If you want to stop dumbing down the children in your congressional district, relinquish federal control and return control over education to local school districts. Leaving the Dept. of Education in place simply leaves politics on the table as the driving force in American education and this has been a disaster for our kids. Stop dumbing America down! Support HR 899 and terminate the Department of Education!
