FEC Democrats Push New Online Conservative Speech-Killing Rule!

Tell Congress:
Stop the FEC From
Gutting the 1st Amendment!

Democrats on the Federal Election Commission (FEC) are pushing a new rule that will effectively stop conservatives from running paid ads on mobile devices such as tablets and smart phones.1 (see footnote for link)

NOTE: Democrat-proposed rules from the FEC are never enforced against Democrat organizations and public-sector labor unions. These rules, while seemingly universal, will only be enforced against conservative political groups.

This proposed rule change for mobile devices will kill the First Amendment free speech rights of conservative organizations to advertise online, based on a lie that the FEC will really be protecting you from being tricked by Russian agents.

Stop The FEC!

The FEC Democrats' proposal would require all political advertising on mobile devices to have a printed disclosure on the ad. This is an underhanded and devilish tactic from the Democrats which sounds harmless on the surface.

The requirement would force conservative outlets such as political action committees, think tanks and others who run ads to have a boilerplate text disclosure which reads: "Paid for by ______. Not authorized by any candidate or candidate committee." (This rule is NOT required for the Democrats' public sector labor unions. Thus, the rule change only benefits the Democrats.)

BUT... when paired with existing advertising policies in place at Google, Facebook and other companies, this requirement will nullify conservative advertising on social media and other platforms, effectively giving the Democrats a monopoly over paid advertising on the internet.

Here is how:

1. Google Pay-Per-Click ads which appear on searches only allow 35 characters on two lines (70 characters total). The proposed FEC disclosure will make it impossible to actually write an ad that says anything other than the disclosure!

2. Facebook ads are a very effective means of reaching new followers, but image ads on Facebook are only allowed to run if the image contains 30% or less in text. Requiring a text disclosure on Facebook images will make it impossible to deliver any message other than the disclosure!

PLUS... there are already FEC rules in place which require disclosures on all email communications and web pages from political organizations. Even if a person clicks an ad with no disclosure, they will still see the disclosure on the web page that this redirects to.

Thus, the FEC proposal is an unnecessary redundancy. The only function of this rule is to have another means to shut down all conservative speech online!

Paul declared in 2 Corinthians 3:12, "Since we have such hope, we use great boldness of speech." The literal translation of the second half of that verse means, "We use much freedom of speech" and that concept is the bulwark of our First Amendment in America.

The Democrats on the FEC seek only to restrict speech for conservatives so that they can have a monopoly on all means of communication with the voters. The Democrats already control all fake news on television and in newspapers. Don't let them control the internet as well!

Speak out to Congress to oppose the FEC Democrats' speech-killing rule change! Your voice is needed to protect free speech online!

Dear Chairman Meadows:

Democrats on the Federal Election Commission (FEC) are pushing a rule change that will require printed disclosures on political advertising delivered to consumers on mobile devices, including smart phones, tablets and even technologies that have not been invented yet. The purpose of this rule change is to give the Democrats a monopoly on paid political speech online and to gut the free speech rights of conservative political organizations. I hope that you will do everything in your power to prevent the FEC from implementing this speech-killing rule. You will find a link at the bottom of this message from Pray For US which provides supporting background information on this issue.

Printed disclosures from political groups are already required on all communications such as fundraising emails and web pages. Therefore, the FEC rule proposal is redundant and unnecessary. However, when considered in conjunction with the already-existing policies in place at liberal tech companies such as Google and Facebook, this proposed rule change is clearly geared toward shutting down paid political speech by conservative groups.

Google Pay-Per-Click ads, for example, only allow 35 characters on two lines (70 characters total) for ads that appear in search results. A text disclosure could easily take up the 70 characters allowed by Google, thereby making it impossible to run an ad on Google. Facebook image ads only allow 30-percent of an image to be covered by text. Therefore, the effectiveness of image ads on Facebook would be nullified by the requirement for a lengthy text disclosure.

FEC rules are never enforced against Democrat political organizations and this rule change would not apply to advertising from public sector labor unions which are almost entirely Democrat political organizations. Therefore, this rule change is yet another Democrat power grab for a monopoly on online political speech. The Democrats already control all fake news television outlets and all newspapers, so now they want to kill the last bastion of free speech in the world: The internet!

I urge you to oppose this FEC proposal which will destroy the First Amendment free speech rights of conservative political groups. Disclosures are already required on all political websites so this rule change is unnecessary. But even worse is the fact that this rule change is a blatant attack on freedom of speech. Don't let the FEC gut the First Amendment!
