Pastor Abedini’s Captivity In Iran

Pray For US – Pray For The United States held a brief conference call on February 28, 2013 in which we discussed the case of an American pastor, Saeed Abedini, who has been sentenced to 8 years in prison in Iran.

Pastor Abedini was actually arrested, prosecuted and sentenced for activities which are LEGAL in Iran. The charges stem from his activities years ago when he was ministering to the underground house churches there. When he was arrested in 2012, he was helping to build a non-sectarian orphanage in northern Iran and with the full permission of the Iranian government.

He was convicted of attempting to “overthrow the Iranian government.”

Pastor Abedini’s wife and two children are safe in America, but fear for his safety and miss him terribly. Pray For US – Pray For The United States (along with many other worthy ministries) is pursuing efforts to help secure Mr. Abedini’s release and safe passage back to America.

The prison where he is being held in Iran is notorious for the torture and mistreatment of prisoners. People who have survived the “interrogations” and daily torture and lived to tell about it describe the Evin Prison as a literal hell on earth.
