Prayer Against the Progressive Income Tax

The following prayer to God was issued on the December 16, 2012 episode of Pray For US on radio. The program aired on KCAA 1050 AM in San Bernardino, California. Our guest for the program that day was Steve Boehman, the chairman of a Louisville, Kentucky chapter of the Tea Party. The podcast of the program is archived here on the Pray For US – Pray for the United States website.

Transcript:

We wanted to share some thoughts with the listeners from Chapter 2 of the book of James. It’s timely given the news that our lawmakers want to raise taxes on Americans who make more money.

James writes, “My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality.

For if there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in fine apparel, and there should also come in a poor man in filthy clothes,

And you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, “You sit here in a good place,” and say to the poor man, “You stand there,” or, “Sit here at my footstool,”

Have you not shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?

We are commanded to treat the poor no differently than the rich. The inverse of this is also true. Our founders understood this concept and it has been a key principle enshrined in our laws and the Bill of Rights.

Another way to phrase it would be, “We are all equal under the law.”

Ask yourself this question as you go about your week. If we are all truly equal under the law, is it fair to tax one man a higher percentage of his income than another?

Prayer to God:

Our heavenly Father, You have chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs to the Kingdom.

Let us seek to do Your will first in all our ways.

Help us to apply Your principles to every area of life, including politics. Help us to see both the rich and poor as deserving of equal treatment under the law.

Help Your church to apply your principles equally to all; and aid us as we seek to teach your law to the masses who have forgotten all of its simplicity and beauty.

We ask these things in Jesus’ name.

Amen!
