The following prayer was issued on the Pray For US radio program on December 30, 2012. It is a prayer for healing America, in a sense, in that God will not heal our land unless the church repents from its many sins. The original program aired on KCAA 1050 AM in San Bernardino, California, and the podcast of that show is archived here on this site. Our in-studio guest was Joe Turner, a staffer who has worked for a number California assembly members and other elected officials. The main topic of the program was the opposition that Pray For US mounted against the appointment of John Kerry – a hypocrite of enormous magnitude – to be the next US Secretary of State.
Proverbs 11:9 reads, “A hypocrite destroys his neighbor with his mouth; but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.”
The hypocrite destroys his neighbor with his mouth – that’s pretty straightforward language. A hypocrite says one thing but his intent and his actions don’t match up with his words.
We see this advice for us throughout scripture. God warns believers to guard against being hypocrites. And He tells us that we will know His followers “by their fruits” – or their actions. Our actions are to be guided by God’s word and our words should match our actions.
The second half of that verse gives us encouragement. Through knowledge shall the just be delivered.
The word ‘knowledge’ appears many times in the Old Testament and the original Hebrew word means ‘crafty’ or ‘cunning’.
We are living in an age when the leadership of our nation is full of hypocrites.
Politicians who surround themselves with heavily armed bodyguards tell us that we’ll all be safer if the “little people” give up their right to keep and bear arms. They tell us universal health care will be good for us all – while they participate in their own separate health insurance program. The list goes on and on.
God tells us that we have to use knowledge or craftiness to defeat them.
Let us pray:
Our God and Father, we are surrounded on all sides by wickedness and evildoers who seek to punish and persecute Your church.
Help us to be mindful of the fact that they are YOUR enemies, first and foremost. They are waging war against Your name.
Help us to take up the banner of righteousness for Your name’s sake in the year to come.
We ask and pray these things in Jesus’ name.
