The GOP Senators Who Support Obamacare

GOP Senators Rand Paul (KY), Ted Cruz (TX) and Mike Lee (UT) have spearheaded an effort to de-fund Obamacare before it can be fully implemented. The good news is that 25 Senators are supporting the effort. However, the Republican-In-Name-Only faction has decided to defy the will of the American people and is balking at the plan to stop Obamacare before it can totally bankrupt America.

The lack of leadership from Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has been especially troubling. There were actually 31 Senators support the de-fund effort until McConnell convinced half a dozen of them to abandon ship.

Amos 3:3 asks, “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”  The answer is, “Of course not.”  Right now, the Republican caucus is divided over whether to do the courageous thing and pull the funds for Obamacare – or to engage in an act of cowardice and give Barack Obama and the Democrats everything they want. Our task, as Christians, is to encourage the GOP Senators to act in unison on behalf of the American people and the church.

The following 10 Republican Senators have made no public statements either for or against de-funding Obamacare, as of this writing. They are no doubt waiting to see where public sentiment will fall on the issue.

  • Dan Coats (IN)
  • Thad Cochran (MS)
  • Susan Collins (ME)
  • Bob Corker (TN)
  • Jeff Flake (AZ)
  • Orrin Hatch (UT)
  • John Hoeven (ND)
  • Lisa Murkowski (AK)
  • Jeff Sessions (AL)
  • Richard Shelby (AL)

Here are the 11 Republican Senators who are openly supporting Obamacare and who, so far, refuse to back the effort to de-fund Obamacare:

  • Kelly Ayotte (NH)
  • John Boozman (AR)
  • Richard Burr (NC)
  • Tom Coburn (OK)
  • John Cornyn (TX)
  • Lindsey Graham (SC)
  • Ron Johnson (WI)
  • Mark Kirk (IL)
  • John McCain (AZ)
  • Mitch McConnell (KY)
  • Roger Wicker (MS)

Sen. Richard Burr is so antagonistic to the idea of rescuing the American people and our economy from Obamacare, that he says the plan to de-fund it is “The dumbest idea I’ve ever heard.” Sen. Ron Johnson was hailed as a “tea party conservative” when he was elected and was very vocally opposed to any funding for Obamacare at the time. Now he has apparently developed a taste for power and is opposed to de-funding Obamacare.  Sen. Tom Coburn, a one-time champion of fiscal conservatism, has stated that the effort to de-fund Obamacare is “a failed strategy” (before it’s even been tried, Tom?).

O, how the mighty have fallen!

These are the Senators who seek the votes of the Christian community when it is an election year. Now they want us to sit down and shut up as they enjoy their own exemption from Obamacare!
